It is idiotic for any nation to accept citizens of another nation infected with a highly infectious disease that they have ZERO cases of, simply because the nation making the request does not want the disease to spread in their homeland. The motivation for the demand is that they have provided a significant amount of aid to the country for decades, so they should accept their diseased citizens...
This is the offer being made to Kenya with ZERO Ebola cases, and they accepted the request. Sensible people within their judiciary have blocked the process... but they will take the Western citizens with Ebola anyway because many African leaders do not respect their judiciary, even in a democracy.
Sometimes, I wonder how power imbalance, corruption fueled by greed, and slave mentality remove the remaining sense in some African leaders... why in the world will any country accept this nonsense? It cannot happen in Nigeria... it can only happen in Kenya... soon, their president, Ruto, will say he can't understand the Nigerian accent... it is common sense that is not common.
The West should make that request to their allies in the EU or the Arab world, not in Africa. Enough of turning Africa into the dumping ground for the West for just about anything, including diseased-ridden citizens from the West.
I just came back from Nigeria . I traversed the length and breadth of the nation a bit in my three-week stay. Something is different about the country compared to when I visited last year.... The people are more desperate... Hunger has increased astronomically.... The gap between the haves and have-nots has further widened... You feel impunity in the air... You see police collecting bribes openly like we have not seen since the Shagari era in 1983... There are more law enforcement agents on the roads now, yet the crime rate has not abated... You see VIO , Road Safety, State Law enforcers, the Police, everywhere mounting illegal roadblocks... I heard things from those close to the seat of power about those who hold the reins of power, and I weep for Nigeria - it is beyond disheartening... Projects are being abandoned because a significant portion has been given as bribes to government officials like governors and ministers, including major monarchs - they all collect money for projects...
