There is always a positive side to every darkness. Since Donald Trump's
Shithole statement about Africa, the profile of Africans in the West has
been lifted, BLM is now accepted, many African Artists have received
star status - Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Wale, etc; African fashion and
dance are in vogue now and it is good time to be an African in the US in
spite of all the nonsense racism that still permeates every facet of
life here. Many more African movies are available on Netflix, and African
dancing style is now very attractive to American pop stars like Diddy
and Beyonce. Naomi Osaka, the newly crowned US Open Champion donned a
beautiful African fabric and others have done so in the past.
We
know that Nigerians like their other African brothers (Ghanaian) are
the most educated ethnic groups in the US, better educated on the
average than Americans by as much as 100% (33% Americans vs 59%
Nigerians with at least a college degree), better than Germans, Chinese,
or Koreans. Many more Nigerians and Africans play in the major league
sports - the ongoing NBA has close to 10 Nigerians (Oladipo, Adetokunbos
(3 of them), Ojeleye, Bam Adebayo, Iguodala, to mention a few).
Unfortunately,
the continent continues to suffer in the hands of many clueless leaders
after it is obvious they can't lead. The continent is also in the
bondage to twisted religious believes perpetuated by those who are only
interested in the pockets alone. Unfortunately, the latter is supposed
to liberate the mind of the people to create the Abrahamic mentality
that Israelite have - Alas, many of those whom God put in charge have
used this wisdom to hold people in bondage to fill their own pockets or
ego. Africans, home and abroad need to stand up for themselves, device
their own solution to their problems, and not wait for one man of god,
government, or any foreign intervention - because "they don't really
care about us". Our destiny is in our hands - individual needs to create
their own paradise in a lawful way, make their own oasis in the midst
of the desert they find themselves.
News of innovation I am
reading everyday gladdens my heart. For the first time in a long time, I
feel a ray of hope that Africa can emerge out of poverty and
backwardness. If they continue to stand up to tyranny, form themselves
together to speak out, create their own wealth with what is available,
the light at the end of the tunnel will shine brighter.
