A friend of mine wrote on Facebook "I personally will do my bit to ensure Atiku never becomes the president of Nigeria". Here is what I reasoned based on his statement:
What APC is doing right now is that they are building on that legacy of waste set by the previous administration, and they are out-performing them on every index. APC's government in 3 years has out-performed (in the negative) PDP in 16 years, when you look at the indices of growth which have declined under the current administration: debt accumulation, state of the economy, division among our people, election rigging, corruption, significant reduction in foreign investment, high rate of unemployment, lack of security of lives and properties, same and even worse power supply, to mention a few. How can an anti-corruption government justify N13 trillion debt in 3.5 years compared to N6 trillion in 16 years of PDP (even when you factor in the devaluation of the naira, that is still humongous - N13 trillion = N5.96 trillion at N165 exchange rate), where is the money spent? Do you know what our debt will be if Buhari continues in government and he continues to accumulate debt at the rate that he is doing now - it will be N34.7 trillion at the end of 8 years. If APC rules Nigeria like PDP did, it will be N69.4 trillion at the end of 16 years. These people are deceiving Nigerians with their anti-corruption campaign, they are worse than PDP. What a lot of Nigerians do not know is that the set of people stealing now, who are mostly Buhari's cronies from the North and some other few APC crooks, are wiser - they are not keeping stolen loot in local or foreign banks where they can be traced, nor are they spending lavishly. They are keeping them in septic tanks, soakaway, they are building a whole house to keep looted money in foreign currency, waiting for the time no one will suspect and they will start to spend.
Our MUMU don do, we should not be deceived to think APC or Buhari's government has plugged any leakage in pipes that run Nigerian money. The leak is bigger today than during GEJ's time. Where are the projects completed to justify so much borrowing, where are the new projects that are changing or will change the lives of Nigerians? APC's government under Buhari is showing to be worse than PDP. If APC leads Nigeria for 16 years, there will not be a nation for anyone to live in anymore. We became the nation that is home to the poorest people (87 million strong) in the world under Buhari's watch with huge IGR and constant revenue from petroleum and LNG, where is the money, where are the infrastructures, why are they borrowing so much to show so little? Buhari's government has not done anything to deserve a 2nd term. In 2018, Nigeria needs more than lip-service to anti-corruption, while we all see that there is nothing in this slogan. Buhari has failed woefully in his anti-corruption campaign - no single person in his government has been nabbed for corruption, he has only gone after the opposition, we see his government reinstating a known corrupt public servant and he even rewarded same with double promotion; there are known corrupt people serving in his cabinet; candidate of the opposition party was praised by him in the last election when he bankrolled the election for him - we know this candidate is allegedly corrupt. Buhari is a total failure in his anti-corruption movement and he has no integrity before people like me.
He ethnic bigotry and failure to clip the wings of his kinsmen for so long is another factor. He is not a unifier, he is careless with his utterances - his Baboon and monkey comments will soak in blood led to the killing of several young Nigerians serving their country in NYSC in Northern Nigeria in 2011 (I wonder why Nigerians, especially southerners whose children were slaughtered as a result of violence instigated by Buhari forgave him for his callous act - he never apologized once for inciting violence because he lost a bad election); there is no sane president will condemn the youths of his country who have been deprived of an enabling environment to thrive, LAZY on an international stage - not if you know you will ask them to vote for you.
Buhari and Atiku, are NO for me; PDP and APC are NO for me. Nigerians should consider alternatives - let's forget about the facts that others do not have a big platform - who is giving APC and PDP platform, the ordinary Nigerians. If you want to see a Nigeria of your dream in your lifetime, you will not condemn yourself to choose between Atiku and Buhari, you will consider the alternatives and give them the chance to lead - among the alternatives are people with proven integrity, we know them.
