One way to quickly gauge the "empathy quotient" of a government is by its policies. Irrational removal of subsidy, the purported plan to increase electricity tariffs, and proposing student loans to students who have less than 10% chance of gainful employment after school is nothing but cluelessness..... You need to think before you suggest or implement life-changing policies...
Tinubu and his appointees will receive a 114% increase in salary and benefits while ordinary Nigerians are paying over 156% more for a liter of petrol. They said it is FAKE news after testing the waters of public reaction, and it was too hot to handle. There is no fire if there is no smoke... Politicians in Nigeria have perfected the art of impunity because many times, they get away with doing stupid and crazy stuff that doesn't make sense and won't be tried where the power to elect and unelect resides with the people.
A government just hikes the price of petroleum products, one of the most essential commodities that an average Nigerian relies on to keep soul and body together. You plan to increase the tariff on electricity, another important utility needed by ordinary Nigerians to make a living.... Many Nigerians who were middle class before May 29 are now lower class.... Nigerian working class have gone back to the days when their salary is no longer sufficient to take care of basic needs like food. I have heard countless stories of senior civil servants begging for money by the 20th of this month because they have exhausted all their income...things will become compounded when it is time to pay their yearly house rent because they could hardly provide food on the table. This is deja vu all again.... 1980s and 1990s...
Then a few days later, you increased entitlement for political appointees (claimed it is fake news), who we all know are overpaid compared to what they do, while you have not told Nigerians suffering currently how you will alleviate their suffering.... Welcome to suffer-suffer and selfish government....
Nigerians have themselves to blame....those who sold their votes for a piece of bread, those who did not vote at all, and those that vote out the sentiment of religion or tribe.....
Mark my words, that 114% increase will be done before the end of Tinubu's first tenure, and more..... they will do it when no one is looking and when the heat of the polity has cooled off..... We have seen it before.....Next time, Nigerians need to stand up and vote people who truly love them into office... When 75% of eligible voters refused to go out and vote, they force themselves on you and you get this type of outcome... It has just started, braise up.... harder days are coming, let us hope there is a soft landing that benefits all.
Communism died, and capitalism survived. Capitalism is a supposed system that allows freeness in an economy - market forces in the hands of private owners control what happens to the economy with minimal influence by the state. Capitalism has produced enormous wealth in the West. There are so many millionaires and billionaires. The question is, what is the ratio of the stupendously rich and those who are just scraping by - living from pay check-to-pay check? The gap is huge between the rich and the poor in most capitalist states. When President Trump was going to deliver his tax reform, it favored the rich with about 80% of the tax benefits going to the top 1% richest people in America. The argument was that they create jobs, they should benefit more - money is being given to those who really do not need the extra cash but those who need it the most, aids is been taken away from people who are at the bottom of the ladder because of a few who lie on their social welfare claims.
