Prince Harry and his wife released their long-expected docuseries on Netflix in pieces and the majority of the British people and press have berated them since. I have not seen all of the documentary but from excerpts, here are a couple of conclusions:
1. Queen Elizabeth was not responsible for most of the face decisions of the monarchy in her latter days - the FIRM and the INSTITUTION (a bunch of influential royals who serve the FIRM and are zealous about protecting the "honor" of the institution) took a lot of decisions that were perceived to be taken from the textbook of Racism 101 - ignore them, suppress them, deny them, under-report their extra-ordinary achievement, us and them, ......). Harry's description of the conversation before the Queen is a case in point.
2. Harry's heart left the Royal Family long before Meghan, he left the day his mother died, and how she was vilified by the FIRM, the INSTITUTION, and the British TABLOIDS for leaving a chronic cheating husband, with all their fabrications.
3. The FIRM & INSTITUTION, and the British society refused to understand the need to modernize the monarchy. What things like this often lead to in the long run is self-destruct. The institution will self-implode when it suddenly realizes it does not have any relevance again in modern society. The marriage of Prince Harry to Meghan was an opportunity lost. Their refusal to accept GROSS error in the way they handled Meghan's debacle (suicidal thoughts, defending her against the Tabloid they worship as they do William's wife, reprimanding those who show all forms of racist tendencies towards her as they now did against William's godmother, etc.), their typical cold silence on all the burning issues with just senseless defense of obvious racist behavior of some, and tendencies that permeate the majority of caucasians (including the Royals) towards people of "color" is very sad.
Let us hope that time will help the FIRM and the INSTITUTION to reflect properly and do what is right. Prince Williams is a likable guy but it does not appear he has handled the case with his brother and his family as he should.
I just came back from Nigeria . I traversed the length and breadth of the nation a bit in my three-week stay. Something is different about the country compared to when I visited last year.... The people are more desperate... Hunger has increased astronomically.... The gap between the haves and have-nots has further widened... You feel impunity in the air... You see police collecting bribes openly like we have not seen since the Shagari era in 1983... There are more law enforcement agents on the roads now, yet the crime rate has not abated... You see VIO , Road Safety, State Law enforcers, the Police, everywhere mounting illegal roadblocks... I heard things from those close to the seat of power about those who hold the reins of power, and I weep for Nigeria - it is beyond disheartening... Projects are being abandoned because a significant portion has been given as bribes to government officials like governors and ministers, including major monarchs - they all collect money for projects...
