State of the Nigerian Nation, 2021 - President's Buhari's Interview with Channels TV

I just saw the excerpt from President Buhari's most recent interview with Channel's TV to discuss the state of the nation Nigeria, and I am ashamed that this is the man leading a country full of intellectuals like Nigeria - pardon me, he has nothing upstairs. He should never have sought to lead Nigeria - Nigeria has been running on autopilot since he assumed office - he has never been different. It was Idiagbon that ran the country when he was the military head of state now it is his Fulani cronies who are ruling Nigeria and they are old and have nothing to offer. They continue to lead Nigeria like the analog age of the 1970s and 1980s in a digital era.

President Buhari had no answer to simple questions - why is insecurity still rampant (answer: he claimed in the last four weeks security situation has improved while during the same period over 100 Nigerians were massacred in a terrorist attack); why have the economic indices of inflation (8.5% to 33%), unemployment (8% to 15%) and dollar exchange rate from N195 in 2015 to N425 in 2021, gone up - his answer was, Nigerians should go back to the farm where his kinsmen no longer allow people to have access. How many farmers have been killed, maimed, and dislodged by Fulani herdsmen across the length and breadth of the country? When Asked about many Nigerians who could no longer put food on the table - his answer was the same, go back to the farm - what kind of farming, subsistence farming like 120 years ago? What about manufacturing, what about the digital economy, what about education, about entertainment, what about curbing corruption that is a major reason why economic measures are failing - especially corruption that transcends the political appointees but one endemic within the civil service and civil servants (that is a topic for another day) .... how about this and many more?

His response to external debt increasing by more than 120% under his watch, especially with the potential of traps by Chinese loans, was that we had no option but to take Chinese loans. He said, if not, probably people will be walking from Lagos to Ibadan right now - I cannot believe my ears and the interviewers were mouth agape and could not hide their shock either. I have asked this question before, "who did we offend in Nigeria" that we continue to elect incompetent leaders and continue to perpetuate them in office even when it is obvious they can not take us to the destination we want?

2023 is just around the corner, it presents another opportunity to elect leaders with proven records to lead and achieve results. I hope and pray we will get it right this time - I just hope ..... because the country's hope of ever emerging is dimming.

STATE OF THE NATION - Nigeria takes one step forward, and ten steps backward...

I just came back from Nigeria . I traversed the length and breadth of the nation a bit in my three-week stay. Something is different about the country compared to when I visited last year.... The people are more desperate... Hunger has increased astronomically.... The gap between the haves and have-nots has further widened... You feel impunity in the air... You see police collecting bribes openly like we have not seen since the Shagari era in 1983... There are more law enforcement agents on the roads now, yet the crime rate has not abated... You see VIO , Road Safety, State Law enforcers, the Police, everywhere mounting illegal roadblocks... I heard things from those close to the seat of power about those who hold the reins of power, and I weep for Nigeria - it is beyond disheartening... Projects are being abandoned because a significant portion has been given as bribes to government officials like governors and ministers, including major monarchs - they all collect money for projects...

WHO SHOULD OR SHOULD NOT HAVE NUKES IN OUR WORLD TODAY?

I quote the father of nukes himself, Albert Einstein , “ Mankind invented the atomic bomb , but no mouse would ever construct a mousetrap ”… No nation should have nukes. If some would, then any nation who want should be able to… current situation creates a power imbalance because those who have it are seen as extremely powerful, and those who don’t are extremely weak nations… Here is a list of nations with nukes – declared and undeclared: U.S., China, Russia, Pakistan, India, France, UK, Israel, and North Korea . These countries host nukes from other countries – Germany , Italy , Türkiye , Belgium , Netherlands and Belarus … Many of USSR ’s former regions like Ukraine and Kazakhstan had nukes, and were tricked to give them up, a decision they all regret today. It is known that Japan , though do not have nukes, have capabilities to develop and launch them within a short time, even from the space. Why can’t other nations have nukes? Ownership of nukes is why Iran is holding the...
