The attitude of my folks in the Church in Nigeria often baffles me. They are scared to speak about the so called "men of God" - who told you the rest of us are not men and women of God too? SOME of these so called "men of God" have abused, robbed, enslaved, dominate, intimidate and manipulate many churchgoers to a point they are afraid to speak when they are a victim. We are committing IDOLATRY, replacing mere mortal with God and we are so afraid to speak against their atrocities like Apostle Paul rebuked Peter when he would not eat or interact with so-called gentiles (Galatians 2:11–13). Some people who are castigating Dakolo are victims of abuse themselves, and out of share ignorance and fear, many keep this a secret and it is eating them up on the inside.
On the case of COZA's pastor, Fatoyinbo, someone wrote a comment to me on a post a friend made and said: "be careful". I do not know what to be careful about. I always like to hear both sides of the story before making a conclusion. However, Fatoyinbo is notorious for using silence to address accusations of sexual misbehavior - let us see what will happen this time around. Here is my take at this point, where there is no fire, there will not be smoke. One was swept underneath, here is another one, if Dakolo is speaking the truth, I promise you, many more people will come out. It takes courage for a woman to come out to accuse someone, let alone a "powerful" preacher, of Fatoyinbo's status of rape. Dakolo does not seem to have anything to gain - she cannot sue, she and her husband are already successful and famous, why accuse Fatoyinbo of rape? There are other preachers who were involved, let those other preachers bear Fatoyinbo witness and call out Dakolo for her lies if she was telling lies. Let them save Fatoyinbo from his false accuser or save other young girls from abuse by a sexual pervert and predator who camouflages in God's garment.
People who have been traumatized (raped, duped financially, emotionally suppressed and abused) by powerful people are often too scared to talk, so when they have the courage to speak, we should not eviscerate them, we should listen to them and wait to hear the other side - let us hope Fatoyinbo speak this time around. The #metoo movement should sweep all facets of life in Nigeria. It is not exclusive of the West, greater abuse is happening in the abode of the powerful in many African countries, worse than what you see in the West because of lack of accountability. Judgment should begin in the house of God.
